Music PR & Artist Promotions

Music PR & Artist Promotions

In the Music Industry, PR is thought of as the promotion of an artist's new record, tour, or activity to a variety of reviewers, radio stations, etc. It is often misread as an impersonal process in which an artist or release is "spun" to maximize exposure. However, a good PR campaign should include the artist's vision into every action as an extension of their creative vision.

We have therefore created a PR process which includes you, the artist, into every aspect of the campaign. As recording engineers and writers ourselves, our program provides a unique view of the spirit behind a recording (something that is all too often missed by many of the larger PR companies).

What We Do

If you ask most artists what their main objectives are they usually answer 1) Be heard, and 2) Make a living if possible. Our fundamental goal to support this mission by providing the tools needed to place a release into the hands of the significant reviewers and radio stations that reach national and global audiences.

Good PR immediately promotes a release to markets outside of a local city and creates genuine exposure. Solid reviews backed by consistent airplay and touring are by far the most effective ways for getting new music heard and-hopefully- bought. Here's how our process works:

Objectives & Timeline

A good PR campaign starts with a solid strategy and the creation of a realistic timeline. We therefore meet with artists early on and discuss their ideas and objectives for their campaign. This provides us with the opportunity of getting to know the artist while allowing them to ask questions, view past campaigns, and discuss personal goals. The result is an effective and personal strategy which outlines the timeline needed to implement objectives.

Creation of PR Materials:

PR assets are the promotional materials sent out to reviewers and radio stations and include one sheets, bios, release emails, and asset web pages. We are staffed with art directors, designers, and writers who work with you to create customized materials that integrate your style into every design - often including album art, band photos, and stories into every piece.

The following is a list of PR materials included within typical campaigns:

- 1 high resolution image of album or release cover
- 2 additonal high resolution images (live photo, band shot, etc.)
- Release bio
- References to past reviews or pull quotes
- PR press page
- One sheet
- Press Release email
- Links to websites (personal, Facebook, Bandcamp, iTunes)
- Links to music

Online PR:

Online PR is usually the first phase in a campeign in which we begin to distribute your music and materials to a variety of online blogs and music magazines. We've developed a list of 500+ personal contacts that can be utilize in a given campaign (selections are made based on your based on genre and interests). During this process we manage communications, ALWAYS connect you with the reviewers that cover your material, and forward you any incoming questions or feedback.

A good review can do wonders for an artist's reach as they have the potential to be read by large audiences nationally or globally. In addition, reviews are often aggregated and redistributed on a number of music sites which increases your web imprint and searchability. Our online campaigns run eight weeks and reports are provided weekly.

Non Commercial and College Radio Marketing with Airplay Tracking:

Most record labels and marketing companies recognize non-commercial and college radio stations as the most effective place to promote new releases. Since 2005, we've been helping artists get their music played on a variety of stations across the country. We work with our artists to target the most effective radio markets nationally, regionally, or locally.

Our radio campaign includes six to eight weeks of airplay, tracking and reports- that detail spins, charting, and feedback from stations. Typically we distribute a release to either 100 or 200 stations nationally or regionally depending on the artist's target market(s). We also utilize our contacts to set up radio interviews at stations that fall along a touring schedule (this is known as tour support).
